Friday 9/26 News

My story was about the situation in Pakistan. Right now we aren’t at war with them but it’s thought that war’s near. There was some Pakistani’s that burnt an American flag during a protest. The U.S. troops and the Pakistan forces exchanged fire because the U.S. crossed the borders. The main point that I got out of this article is that the U.S. and Pakistan are butting heads and it’s on the edges of going to war. Two terrorist groups, al-Qaeda and Taliban, and it is thought that Osama bin Laden is hiding in the mountains and we’re searching for him and his people. So Pakistan’s kind of annoyed by that to. There’s a lot of people in Pakistan that wants the U.S. out, and that’s what I got out of the article.

Senate passes bailout
http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/01/news/economy/senate_rescuebill2/index.htm?cnn=yes BRI NELSON!

On Wednesday night, the senate passed a financial bailout. It was similar to the bailout that was previously rejected two days earlier. It was passed by a vote of 74 to 25! Both Barack Obama and John McCain voted in favor of the bill. "Like the bill the House rejected, the core of the Senate bill is the Bush administration's plan to buy up to $700 billion of troubled assets from financial institutions." (quoted from the paragraph from CNN.) A major priority of this bill is to free up banks, and to let them start lending money again.

"If we do not act responsibly today, we risk a crisis in which senior citizens across America will lose their retirement savings, small businesses won't make payroll ... and families won't be able to obtain mortgages for their homes or cars," said Harry Reid, who is the Senate Majority Leader.
This plan will hopefull unfreeze credit markets, and get the American Economy back up and running smoothly.

U.S. nuke envoy in North Korea for talks--ERIN[[thanks for forgetting me Mr. Bruns!]]
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/10/01/nkorea.nuclear/index.html
Important People: Christopher Hill-U.S. nuclear envoy.
Six-Party Talks: The Six-Party Talks concerning the DPRK’s nuclear program involve the United States, North Korea, China, Japan, Russia and, South Korea. However, the primary players are the US and North Korea.

The U.S made a deal with North Korea that if they stopped making nuclear weapons the U.S would deliver them supplies that they need like food and other items. N. Korea says that we aren’t following through on out deal though, and they have started making nuclear weapons. N. Korea invited Christopher Hill on this multi-capital trip thing that includes N. Korea, along with S. Korea, China, and Japan as well so ha can negotiate with them. The U.S also thinks that the N. Korean leader Kim Jong II may be seriously ill, because he has not been attending things that he normally attends. Many people are wondering who are in charge. The U.S and allies in the six-party talks insist N. Korea provide information on how to verify its earlier statements, but the N. Koreans claim that the demands are too intrusive.
