More than 200,000 kids spanked at school:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/08/20/corporal.punishment/index.html
more than 200,000 kids in the us were spanked or paddled in the past school year.
corporal punishment in schools remains legal in 21 u.s states,
luckily iowa is not one of them.
the punishment is disproportionally applied to black students.
2 people in the class say they would have prefered being spanked in elementary school than had to get a detention.
3 kids in the class were not spanked as a child, and then there are a few who don't know.
Is 'Guitar Hero' saving rock 'n' roll?:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/20/videol.games.music/index.html
the music industry is not doing so good right now because of illegal pirating.
because of these games, rock n roll music is becoming more popular, they are now coming back and moving to the top of sales charts.
the music industry is mad at the game companies because the game people are flourishing in profits, and the music people aren't doing so hot, they think that they aren't getting enough money from the companies.
Ellen DeGeneres reportedly weds in California:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/08/17/degeneres.wedding.ap/index.html?iref=newssearch
california allowed gay marrige in their state this summer, iowa is still debating on the subject.
there are two ways that the us gov't could make sure that there is no more gay marrige, they are
1. someone could bring the case to the supreme court so they can perhaps overrule it,
2. the other way is by getting an ammendment, which is not easy.
things are probably going to stay the same in california for awhile.
