Home prices plummet to a new record:
http://money.cnn.com/2008/08/26/real_estate/Case_Shiller_home_price_report/index.htm?cnn=yes
The National price of homes dropped 15.4 percent in the past year. Due to the fact that the economy is weak right now no one is in the mood to buy a new house right now because they don't have the money to do it. On the other hand houses are being put on the market due to foreclosures and people who can't afford to stay in the house they are in. Those who aren't being affected by the weak economy are holding out to buy a new house until house prices hit rock bottom. Las Vegas is the worst city for drop in housing prices, while Denver and Boston actually saw a slight increase in home prices.

Russia recognizes Georgian rebel regions:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/26/russia.vote.georgia/index.html
Russia supports South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent nations. So they invaded Goergia. But then they signed a ceace fire, but according to NATO they violated it. So now, NATO, and the US, don't think very highly of Russia.
